Maryland Lawmakers Override Governor to Expand Hotel Sales Tax – On January 21, 2016, the Democratic-controlled Maryland Senate voted to override Republican Governor Larry Hogan’s 2015 veto of a bill requiring online travel companies, like Travelocity and Expedia, to collect and remit sales tax based on the full amount a customer pays to the online travel company (aka “OTC”). As provided by Maryland’s constitution, because the House also approved the override, the bill (SB 190), will become law in 30 days.
