IRS Phishing Scams on the Rise

Accountants are seeing a growing amount of fraudulent email communications sent to clients from those purporting to be with the IRS. Typically these emails contain a real tax form for the recipient to complete to send back by either fax or email.
Telltale signs of fraudulent emails:
- Just getting such an email – the IRS never communicates with taxpayers by email!
- Read the message carefully – you will notice formatting, word choice, punctuation, capitalization, and other grammatical errors.
- Hover your mouse over the link they want you to click on, and you will typically see a very long address having nothing to do with
