The IRS provides an exemption under Section 501(c)(4) of the IRC for social welfare organizations that are nonprofit in nature and operate exclusively for the promotion of the common good and welfare of a community. The NAACP, AARP, Sierra Club are example of 501(c)(4) entities that are classified as organizations promoting social welfare for the common good and welfare of a community.
